Silas' 6th birthday

Last night of my Si-Dog being 5 years old. "May Silas walk after you, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You. "(Deuteronomy 13:4)

I asked Silas what he would like to do for his birthday a few weeks back, and he had no ideas.  All he said was "I want my best friends to be with me!" Silas LOVES people!  So we brainstormed and ended up touring Casa Bonita last week.  He was walking around awestruck of all the fun things to do there...arcades, scary tunnel, dive show, gorilla reenactment, and the flights of stairs to get around in the restaurant.  Side note: When we mentioned to people that we have never been to Casa Bonita, they were shocked! Every kid should go there for their birthday at least once...they would say.  Another side note: Matt(Daddy) lived behind Casa Bonita when I met him for the first time...1998.

Morning of the BIG day, I made sprinkled cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting for breakfast. Opened a gift from us...two shirts.  Tradition to open a gift before school and typically it's an outfit to wear to school BUT the shirts were too big.  Oh well.

So we invited Caden, Asher, Nash, and Mason...and of course Jonas to go to Casa Bonita on his actual birthday after kindergarten was out at 11:55.  Daddy and I took everyone from school and experienced a birthday bash.  Lunch, dive show, gunfight, arcades, cake(scooby doo...first time I ordered a cake from the store and not make one) and presents...lots of Lego Chima sets this year. Took everyone back to school for the big boys pick up and dropped friends off with their parents.

Later that evening, we had soccer practice! And then came home to more gifts and burnt hot dogs.  Oops! You wanted Baby Back Ribs for your special dinner but we were gone all day and didn't have the time to cook them.  So we pulled out some hot dogs in the freezer and grilled them.  But we got distracted and the dogs caught on fire! Yikes!  I was super sad to not have a meal for Silas but he said "Mom it's ok, it's not about the dinner and we can just eat PB and J!"  One thing I enjoy about Silas is that he makes everyone feel good about themselves and life is too short to fret about the small things.

I love you so much Silas!  Way way more than you know.
There are quite a few milestones in this past year but here are a few:
Reads more than 40 sight words
Master of blowing bubbles within days
Played tee ball for the first time
Kept up snowskiing with all of us
Patient with little bro, Lukas
Grew out of tantrums
Pedaling geared bike

Here are a few sayings in the last year as a 5 year old:
"Batman is really nice.  If he shows up at our house, he would hug me."
"Mom, I love everybody."
"I have a quito bite."
"God is stronger than The Hulk and Batman."
"My tummy hurts, I think there's food jammed up in my tummy."
"Mom, I love you all around the world and all around the universe and all the way to heaven and back."
"Sometimes I cry when I'm happy."

Romantic Moab trip

Daddy and I had a chance to take a trip to Moab this fall without you boys.  It was all initiated by Corine and Tom Sweeney turning  60 this year. So 6 months ago, we planned this trip with the Sweeneys and arranged you three boys to stay home.  Lukas went with Grandmom/Grandad and Jonas/Silas went to friends house and Missy staying at our house for the weekend.

First night we stayed in Vail at Sweeneys condo...which we house swapped for our Moab accommodation. Started off the trip biking 40 miles through Colorado Monument on the road the next morning.  It was unseasonably warm outside in October but it was nice to road bike with the Corine and Tom again.  We use to bike with them on bicycle tours around the state....miles and miles on the road.

Off to Moab and checked in our house.  It was spectacular! Stucco ranch style home...we have never stayed in Moab and NOT camp.  This is was a whole new experience!

Friday morning we rode 20 miles at Klondike bluffs trailhead.  The feeling of being on my mountain bike in Moab is so magical especially riding with daddy...my love!

Saturday morning we started off early to ride the 65 mile loop on the road called the Laval Mountain Loop.  It's been years since I've ridden more than 50 miles on the road but we all teamed up and supported each other the whole way.  The views of autumn were marvelous and stunning!  The fresh cool/warm air was spectacular. We rode through forested area to desert with pinnacles and climbed 6,000 feet in elevation.  We were pooped at the end!  Rested our tush and raised our feet for the rest of the day.

Sunday was a much cooler day but we explored a new trail called Klonzo.  I believe parents had designed these single track trails for their kiddos.  We want to bring you here soon.  That evening, Daddy and I adventured out to another new place that was very difficult.  We were riding at dusk so made a short loop to chase the sunset.  Dad and I really enjoy riding bikes together, it seems so easy and content to be with each other.  I love your dad so so so much more than I can say!

Drove back to Denver Monday morning in the rain and snow excited to see you three again.  Dad picked up Lukas at Grandmoms and I picked you other two at soccer practice with Ted and Hollis Politte. Jonas, you greeted me with a huge hug and said "I'm ready to be home with you and the whole family." Silas, you started crying when you saw me and said "I don't want to go home, I want to be with my friends."
Swim team while we were gone and Lukas with Grandmom at a park.
