Halloween celebrations

This past week was overflowing with Halloween fun events for the kids. I never knew how much we could enjoy it and partake in several activities without being frightened. Jonas asked me,"Why are we celebrating, is it someones birthday?" I told him it's a holiday to dress up in costumes and receive candy. He liked that answer! Three weeks ago, I found 2 costumes on Craigslist.com, Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato from Veggie Tales. Jonas picked Larry and Silas fit perfect in Bob.
Jack O' Lantern waffles for breakfast

The first event for the boys to put on their costumes(other than running around the house in them) was Jonas' preschool Halloween party. It was on a Friday, in which he doesn't attend on Fridays, but everyone was invited to come. His teachers said Silas is invited too!
Lining up to march through the other classrooms of the preschool. Jonas was excited to show me how they line up on the red line. He was so attentive and a good listener.
Silas as Bob the Tomato was right in line with Jonas.

Goodies to eat and punch to drink. Oh, the sugar high begins!

Saturday afternoon was Colorado Christian University's Harvest Festival. We met up with our friends, the VanderLaans to join us in the fun.
Larry the Cucumber, Elmo, Bob the Tomato, and Tim Tebow(Broncos quarterback)

Instead of trick or treating, CCU students offered "trunk or treating" by decorating their car trunks and handing out candy. The boys were confused since they have never even trick or treated before, let alone from a trunk. However, once they saw what they were getting in return, they were not shy...especially Silas! He gave most of the students high fives or pounds. I think the CCU girls loved Silas as Bob the Tomato. One group of students chimed in singing the "Veggie Tale theme song" to them. It was a riot!
Eating suckers was Silas' favorite

Off to the carnival games and bouncy castles.
Jonas and Caleb having fun on the bouncy castle.

That night we watched our neighbor's daughter, Kallie, so he could go to a Halloween party as Twiddle dee. Kallie has become Jonas' neighborhood friend every Monday and Tuesday night when she stays with her dad. It's been a great friendship!

Sunday was our church's 3rd annual Pumpkin Palooza. Chili cook-off with lots of desserts and games for the kids.
Silas and Cohen being wrapped like mummies! Anything to get more candy.

Mommies hanging out while the kids roam around with their friends.
Kirsten(with Sam), Karissa(with Emerson), and me.

Fishing game and Jonas caught little Indian figurines.

Monday, Halloween night!
Our good friends, the Gardzelewskis, invited us over for dinner and trick or treating. We were served a delicious White Bean Chicken Chili with Pumpkin biscuits.
The boys were super ramped up by then and were excited for more candy.
Bob, Larry, Sam as a caterpillar, and Asher as a boxer.

After a few houses, Jonas knew what to do. Knock, stand back, and say trick or treat!

Silas enjoyed walking in the dark with a jack o' lantern flashlight.

The adults casually walked together and enjoyed our kids being excited! There was only one house that had scary skeletons and moving objects. The boys were timid so we continued on to the next house.
Kirsten and I enjoying a glass of wine.

Back to their house and Jonas picked the eyeball sucker to devour first.

Asher and Jonas...best buddies! Even though this photo came out blurry, I thought it was appropriate for Halloween. Oooo...scary!

Phew! Am I so glad Halloween is over. Now I need to figure out what to do with the surplus of candy! Ok, twist my arm...I will treat myself once in awhile. The joy of being an adult. Jonas and Silas can have 2 a day until the end of this week.
