Remarkable Rodents

We finally have started up Toddler Times again at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. With Jonas' preschool schedule, it's been difficult to plan to do the class. It's a monthly class specified for kids 2-5. Jonas has been involved with this class since he was 20 months. He always has enjoyed learning more about nature. Now Silas is excited too!

This class was on rodents! Yugh! But really what we think of rodents is not what they really are. Beavers, chipmunks, squirrels, muskrats, and yes...even rats. In the beginning of the class, the teacher asked the class holding up a stuff mouse, "what is this animal?" And Silas blurted the answer out first "MOUSE". It was so cute!
After a short talk from the instructor, she sends out the kids to different stations to work on crafts, experiment with tools, etc. Here above is Silas stirring up some Beaver Goulash and Jonas made Beaver biscuits. They had to follow a recipe and cook it in a pretend oven. Jonas kept asking me "is this oven pretend?"

Our favorite teacher, Peg, brought her pet rat. Silas was in the seat ready to hold her. Jonas stood back and observed. Lol!

Off to collect 'pretend' nuts for the rodents to survive over the winter. It was like Easter hunting!

Back to the room to wrap up the class. The kids were joyful to pour out their nuts to see how much they accumulated.

Then we headed outside to the trail system in the area to go for a hike. The boys were full of energy and loved stomping through snow even.

God created boys, full of spirit and fun to explore and conquer, to romp and run.
