Zion National Park, Watchman campground, and blazing HOT!! In brevity, here is our 4 day excursion.
The LA Robinson family, their pastor and family, and the Heltons
Eli and Jonas connected once again. You couldn't tell, but they were excited to see each other. It was just too hot to show emotion...hee!
First thing first...give Eli's his birthday gift, a Star Wars pod racer. They loved working on it together while we set up tent.
Silas working on his Junior Ranger workbook in the shade.
From our campsite, we trotted over to a nearby river to cool off for the evening. The views were breathtaking so far but we haven't seen the real beauty yet.
Enjoyed ice cream that evening. Note-Jonas always picks Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream...I think because he loves mint gum!?
The next morning, we decided to hike with the kids in the heat, Watchman Trail. It didn't last long but it was enjoyable to listen to the cousins talk and discover their little personalities.
It had to be over 110 degrees on this rock, but Jonas was determined to climb it and requested a photo...hee!
Any shade we came across, we rested and hydrated.
Auntie Sara enticed the kids with delicious snacks and chewy candy to keep moving.
Bringing up the rear...my cool Silas!
On our way back we stopped at the river again and jumped in with our clothes. So refreshing.
Cousins made mud balls and had a contest on who was bigger...Sydney's or the boys?
Back to camp for some dinner and continued to cool down with water fights and Coors Light.
Our next exploration was the Narrows. All I have to say is that was the most unique and rare hike ever. We hiked in the water for 2 miles and trekked back.
There were times the water was waist deep and had to carry the little ones across. But most of the time, Jonas was hiking through. If it weren't for the cousins, not sure if he would have done it. Thanks Eli and Syd!
Magnificent and amazing!
Hiking the path out, they continued to have energy!
The shuttles took us from our campsite to any trailhead. The kids loved riding in them. No naps, sucked dry from the heat, and they continued the perpetual chatting.
June 21st, our 11th anniversary, Matt took his angel(me) to Angel's Landing trail. Nate tagged along too...hee! We woke up at 5am to beat the heat and enjoy the sunrise on the top of the canyon.
Now this hike is not just any other hike, it's the most famous and thrilling hikes in the national park system.
AFter a series of switchbacks, the trail runs along a narrow rock fin
with dizzying drop-offs on both sides.
Chains to grip are provided for portions of the half mile to the top.
View looking down.
We pulled ourselves up to the top and stood in awe at the stunning views and nobility!
